Wondering how Jews got so funny? It turns out, we have a lot of practice–Jewish humor has a LONG history! From the Bible, to the Talmud, to Seinfeld, comedy has been part of our Jewish story basically as long as our people has been around.
In this session, participants will learn a bit more about that humorous history. We’ll read some of the earliest Jokes Jews ever told, reflect on how humor plays a role in our lives today, and consider how we can be more astute practitioners of the comedic arts. Likewise, we all (hopefully!) know that humor can sometimes go awry and be destructive. Thus, we’ll work together during this session to think about how to be more constructive social comedians.
